AirTran Check-in Procedures and Travel Tips If you have any questions regarding check in or any other AirTran policies or procedures, please contact AirTran Airways Reservations at 1-800-AIR-TRAN (1-800-247-8726) or at 678-254-7999 in Atlanta for more information. Check-in Requirements — Ticket Counter AirTran Airways recommends that passengers arrive at the airport 120 minutes prior to the scheduled departure of their flight. Due to security requirements, passengers and their baggage will not be accepted at the ticket counter less than 45 minutes prior to the scheduled departure of their flight (Branson Airport accepts baggage up to 30 minutes prior to scheduled departure time). Check-in Requirements — GateCustomers must present themselves at the flight departure gate no later than 10 minutes prior to the scheduled departure of their flight. Failure to comply will cause the customer to lose their reservation and, if so, they will not be eligible for denied boarding compensation. IdentificationAll passengers over the age of 18 must present a valid, government-issued photo ID (such as a driver's license, U.S. Military ID card or passport) upon check-in and at the TSA screening checkpoint. Baggage — Carry-OnFederal regulations limit a passenger to one carry-on bag and one personal item. A personal item may consist of a handbag, umbrella, coat, camera, reading material, infant food, briefcase or laptop computer. Carry–on baggage must be placed under the seat in front of the customer or in the overhead bin. Baggage — CheckedThere is a charge of $15 to check one bag and a charge of $25 to check a second bag. Other fees apply; please see below. Active military personnel with reservations booked March 18, 2009 or later and who are traveling with ID and official orders will have their first, second and third bag fees waived, in addition to oversize and overweight fees for those three bags. The bags must not exceed a total of 100 pounds or 80 inches each. Standard baggage fees will apply for all bags checked in excess of three. Excess Baggage Fees: there will be a $50 charge per piece for each checked bag in excess of the first two bags. Overweight Baggage Fees: an overweight charge will be assessed for each checked bag weighing more than 50 pounds. Baggage in excess of 100 pounds will not be accepted. Oversized Baggage Fees: an oversize charge will be assessed for each checked bag with overall dimensions between 62 and 80 inches. Baggage in excess of 80 inches will not be accepted. AirTran Airways transports sporting equipment such as bicycles and surfboards at a nominal charge. Please contact AirTran Airways Reservations at 1-800-AIR-TRAN (1-800-247-8726) or at 678-254-7999 in Atlanta for more information. Regulations require that name identification be to be placed on the outside of each checked bag. AirTran Airways recommends placing identification on the inside of luggage as well. Luggage nametags are available at all AirTran Airways baggage acceptance locations. AirTran Airways will not be responsible for money, jewelry, cameras, video and electronic equipment, personal computers, silverware, negotiable documents, securities, business documents, samples, paintings, antiques, artifacts, manuscripts, furs, irreplaceable books, publications or similar valuables contained in checked baggage. Fragile articles and perishables are accepted as checked baggage only at the customer's risk. All checked baggage will be screened by the Transportation Security Administration (TSA). The TSA recommends that passengers leave their baggage unlocked, as Federal Security Screeners may have to open and physically search a bag as part of the screening process. For more information, visit the TSA's website at www.tsatraveltips.us. Passengers with Disabilities and Special NeedsAirTran Airways complies fully with the U.S. Department of Transportation Part 382 regulations concerning passengers with disabilities. A copy of Part 382 is maintained at each AirTran Airways ticket counter and gate. Passengers with disabilities should advise the AirTran Airways Reservations Sales Agent at the time of booking so that appropriate accommodations (e.g., seat assignments) may be made. Children and InfantsAirTran Airways strongly encourages customers traveling with infants less than seven days old to consult with their physician prior to traveling. One infant under two years of age, not occupying a seat, may be carried free of charge in the lap of a customer paying the applicable adult fare (AirTran may request a birth certificate to validate the infant’s age). You may bring a stroller to the gate for ease of travel through the airport. The stroller may be gate-checked just before boarding the plane and will be returned to the aircraft jet way upon arrival at your destination. Car seats and strollers may be checked free of charge; any other items are subject to standard baggage fees (i.e., portable crib, high chair, etc.). Booster-type child seats, vest and harness-type systems and lap-held child belts are not approved for use in the aircraft during movement on the surface, taxi, takeoff and landing; they may be used during cruise flight only. The C.A.R.E.S. (Child Aviation Restraint System) is currently the only child safety device FAA-approved for all points of travel in place of a child restraint seat. When traveling with an infant, you are allowed more than the standard one carry-on item in order to travel with baby-related items such as diapers, baby clothes, blanket, etc. We recommend that you carry on an ample supply of baby care items in the event that your flight is delayed. Security requirements prevent us from retrieving checked luggage from the cargo stowage. |
